Dual diagnosis from a social work perspective

The goal of this bachelor thesis named Dual diagnosis from the standpoint of social work is to shed light on what role a social worker has in the process of a patient's recovery and social rehabilitation from dual diagnosis. In addition to that, this thesis should clarify the position of a social worker in a multidisciplinary team and to describe dual diagnosis as a complex problem from the biopsychosocial standpoint. Both primary and secondary literature (printed and in the form of internet resources) were used as the theoretical framework of this thesis. The theoretical framework should primarily act as a guide to help better understand the phenomenon that is dual diagnosis in the context of social work. Qualitative interviews and case studies were then used as the practical framework for this bachelor thesis. The group of respondents is made up mainly by social workers, psychiatrists, adiktologists, and psychologists that work in the respective field. Psychiatric Comorbidity of Patients Addictology Clinic

Background: Many patients and clients visiting addiction treatment facilities suffer from other psychiatric illnesses in addition to addiction. The treatment and especially the prognosis of these patients are all the more complicated to decide on. And they rquire more time and effort being put in them. It is also necessary tu educate the staff about the pitfalls of said clients. Psychiatric comorbidity prolongs tratment time and icreases the chance of patient relapsing. Aim: Aim of this work was to determine and map the prevalence of comorbidities of patients in the Addiction Clinic. Methods: A retrospective study was conducted from already collected data on patients who visited the Addiction Clinic at least once in 2021. The following information was provided about patients: Age, sex, region, date of visits, established diagnosis according to ICD-10. These data were subsequently adjusted clients with non-substance addiction and clients without a diagnosis of addiction or problematic use were removed. Results:The research file contains 201 clients, of which 111 are men and 90 are women. The average age of clients is 44 years. Psychiatric comorbidity of methamphetamine users

The aim of this diploma thesis is to describe cooperation with clients / users of methamphetamine with a severe psychiatric disorder from the schizophrenic spectrum using case management methods. The theoretical part summarizes current knowledge of the negative consequences of using methamphetamine, focussing on serious psychiatric comorbidity from the schizophrenic spectrum. It includes research of current studies (both Czech and foreign), information on specific comorbid diagnoses and a description of the case management method, including its specific application within the SANANIM addictology ambulance. The practical part contains three case studies structured into six sections: (1) Initiation of the program entry, (2) The first contact and setting, (3) Entrance evaluation and indication, (4) Establishing a relationship and developing cooperation, (5) Cooperation with other experts and stakeholders (6) The results of cooperation focussed on changes in relation to: comorbid illness, severity and frequency of use of a primary drug and other addictive substances, social situation and relational healing.
